How to Identify the Early Style
The early diaphragm uses a spring-loaded center / plunger design. Early IDF accelerator pumps are typically operated by a cam-and-roller mechanism. Compare the diaphragm and pump mechanism on your carburetor before ordering rather than relying on vehicle year alone.
Why Replace an Accelerator Pump Diaphragm?
The accelerator pump provides an extra shot of fuel when the throttle opens. A worn, hardened, damaged or leaking diaphragm can contribute to fuel seepage, hesitation, stumble or a flat spot during acceleration.
