How to Identify the Late Style
The late diaphragm uses a flat / solid-center design. Later IDF accelerator pumps are typically operated by a threaded rod and nut. Compare the diaphragm and pump mechanism on your carburetor before ordering rather than relying on vehicle year alone.
Why Replace an Accelerator Pump Diaphragm?
The accelerator pump provides an extra shot of fuel when the throttle opens. A worn, hardened, damaged or leaking diaphragm can contribute to fuel seepage, hesitation, stumble or a flat spot during acceleration. These symptoms can also have other causes, so inspect the complete accelerator-pump circuit, jets, fuel pressure and carburetor adjustment during diagnosis.
